One project down... ??? to go...

So this past weekend was Cattle Raids. I spent the week before getting very little sleep while finishing this hat. It (now) belongs to Maddalena (it was made because she got Laureled), except I need to take it apart to resize the band a bit (it's a bit small for her... darn).
Anyway, I entered it into the Baronial Artisan competition, not that I won of course, but at least I got fairly decent scores for a first attempt. I'm definitely going to have to do another willow/reed supported hat, because it was *amazingly* light for its size.
Of course, getting one project done doesn't really shorten my project list much. First of all, I'm making a Russian shirt in the next 2 weeks for Nikulai to wear to Crusades. While I'm at it, I should fix the rest of his Russian I made for him a few years ago - some of the frogs are a bit ratty, and some of the pearls have fallen off. It's only about an hours worth of work to fix it,and I've been putting it off for as long as
nikulai has been procrastinating on making me cordial :-). (which I'm actually glad about, that he hasn't made it yet, because I'd feel even worse about not having fixed his garb).
Also, I'm working on some hats (of course). One of them is a hat I'm planning on making two sets of, this one. One is for me, because it's fun, the second is for Adriana (who has a Diaryland page but no livejournal, or I'd link to her). She has the coronet in the picture (it's GORGEOUS) and so I thought she should have the cauls as well. I also need to think of something to make for Beatrice (
3_purple_irises, not that she has ever written in it), and one of our newcomers wants some help in working on a turban.
I'm still working on my bed (ok, really that translates to "I've got the fabric, I need to start sewing it"), and other pavilion furnishings also need to happen, but not as urgently.
An interesting project for between now and 12th night is also going to be to get
ramblingheritic respectable looking. (Yes, yes, I know, but he only has to look the part! ;-> ) Xavier, contrary to his name(though that's supposed to be changing), is a Viking from 910 Birka. While I still don't *like* early period garb, it does make an interesting break from 14th/15th century stuff. And I'd like to see Xav not getting snide comments about the way he dresses. So... garb it is. I've got some of the research done, though I wouldn't mind tracking down some of the original sources. On the other hand, I'm not sure how much original research I want to put into this, since it's not my primary persona. I think I'll just tell him, "ok, here's what you should wear and why, if you want to document it farther here's the articles you need, find them yourself".
And the other thing for 12th night is garb for myself and my dear lord (
soucyn) who's being somewhat of a ninny and not looking for his own pictures. I suppose I shouldn't fault him for not liking research, that's my thing and he does go out and get bruised for me weekly (or more). It's just that every time I *really* like something, he doesn't, so I'd kind of rather he picked out his own pics. oh well, now I'm just bitching, which isn't really fair (considering he changed personas to match mine, well, almost (me=1410, him 1380). The garb isn't as hard as all the accessories and such...though I need to figure out what color underdress I should have - any ideas what would go well under blue/green shot linen? it's kind of cornflower blue and sea green.
Also, I'd like to enter *something* in Tempore Atlantia at 12th night. Really, I'd like 2 somethings - a paternoster, for the "religious artifacts" competition, and something for the main show, probably a hat (maybe the one mentioned farther up in this entry?
After 12th night comes work for KASF (I think...we'll see. Not sure whether I'd rather enter the pentathlon (assuming it happens), do a food display or do a hat display. Also, the Kberg loaner gear needs some SERIOUS work... we just moved it to our place on Thursday and, well...yeah.
Other than the hat, Cattle Raids was fun, if something of a blur from lack of sleep.
idonealuv's feast was incredible, as many people have mentioned (and I don't say that often). Court was *very* long, for a non-Royal court, but a lot of people got a lot of awards they deserved (although I've always been a bit weirded by the same person getting more than one award in one court - it seems like it's better if they're spread out - I still hate that I got my AoA/KH/Boreas so close together). *shrug* Royal/Baronia whim though, and better to give deserved awards than not to give any...
It's amazing, and very cool, how many college students we have in the group now...also, it was nice seeing
algedonic and
gwenifyre at the event. (side note, if one of you is reading this - when do we want to get together to pick up the "project"?)
Work has been a touch frustrating lately - though the raise heps make up for it - the half boring, half frantic nature of it does get to me...
Edit: This entry was written last night at 7:00 - I'm not backdating it because that means no one will read it, but I really don't care about anything in it right now.
