I am not a pirate...

Ninjas are still cooler, so I shall not say "Yarr", nor "Avast ye" nor... well, all sorts of other piratey things I'm not saying.

Went to Florida over the weekend - something of a command performance, in that my inlaws decided they didn't see us enough so they flew us down there. But that meant a free trip to Busch Gardens, so I can't complain very much at all.  I've mostly gotten over my fear of roller coasters, so we rode several interesting ones - Nick's favorite was Montu, while mine was a toss-up between Montu and Kumba. The only other thing of note (well, there were cute animals and such too) was the adorable stuffed peacock I found in the giftstore. That, and I got to go to Lush...I have much happier skin and hair now.
  Kumba.

    Montu.

 Perry the Peacock.

In other news, I bought a FoodSaver. More news later on whether it's all that is advertised, though I feel vaguely dirty that I bought something that was "As Seen On TV".  Though, just to clarify, I didn't see it on TV.

To add my own idea for a post to yours:

Ridign Montu was the first time I've been back to a coaster after a long time away from it. Most of the time, we're going to a park we haven't been to before, but our trip to Bush Gardens this past weekend was the second time I was at that park. The last time I was probably about 14 years old.

Montu was the big new thing back then. Inverted coasters were new and shiny, and I had only ridden one previously at Cedar Point (the Raptor). Riding Montu again brought back the memories of my previous ride on it, and it has held up against the test of time.

I think what makes Montu a good coaster is it's overall design, not some spiffy gimmick like "tallest" or "fastest" or "steepest" or whatever. It's simply an inverted coaster, using normal chain technology to get up to the top of the hill, a modest drop, and a hell of a lot of loops, twists, and turns. This was the first coaster I was ever on that I felt really used the main benifit of an inverted coaster - namely the inability to see the track ahead of you. I think you can really get into a ride that flips you upside down then rotates you around the axis of the track, but it would be terrifying to do in a sit down coaster when you saw that comming.

You have a point. ::shrug:: Who knows, maybe I'll actually have the guts to do SheeKra if we go back.

oh, c'mon now- nothing's cooler than pirates
especially not ninjas

I mean really, would you rather wear lots of gaudy jewelry and play with swords and parrots while getting drunk off rum on tropical islands or be allowed to wear only black and climb around on rooftops all night in black pajamas?

be honest now.

I like the mystery though.
And I don't do gaudy.

Rum I do like though...

Ninjas? NINJAS? I may have to reevaluate our friendship.

Love the peacock plushie. Sounds like a fantabulous weekend. :)

It's not that I don't understand the appeal of Pirates, esp. Captain Jack. I just feel that in a pitched fight, well, the pirates wouldn't do so well.

[identity profile] 40sw.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
no, no, in a pitched fight the pirates would do much better against ninjas... now samaurai is a different story but ninjas are all about sneaking up on you when you're sleeping and otherwise they're pretty useless... that's why they only come out at night and climb around in black pajamas 'cause if you see them they're in trouble... hardly good for anything in a pitched battle save for running away

I rode Montu in 1996. It was a total blast, and probably ranks as my favorite coaster ever. Did you get anything good at LUSH? I was in Chicago last weekend and didn't have time to hunt down the local LUSH store. Alas!

Mostly refills, though I picked up a couple shampoo bars just to experiment with (they'd be nice for travelling, if they don't kill my hair). Also got some Mask of Magnaminity, which is a fabulous minty green clay mask, and picked up some Demon in the Dark soap for Girard to shave with. (He used to use Burt's Bees shaving soap, which got discontinued, so...)

Somehow, I managed to get talking and NOT buy any Karma soap. Good thing I've got enough to last through till Christmas!

Hey, You Were In My Neighborhood!

Well, sort of. Someday when you're down this neck of the woods again (yes, we there are woods, it's not all beach) you'll have to make time to come see me and maybe go to one of our local events. I only live about an hour west of Busch Gardens Tampa. Ten minutes from the beach. OK, beach I've been to what, three times since I moved here?

Only if you come for an event, I recommend you don't bring the woolen garb. Go for linen. :-)

That'd be fun, though the chances are fairly minimal. My in-laws are somewhat determined "Muggles", the only way I figure they're gonna come to an event is if Girard was gonna get some major award or something - and even then I think they'd think garb was weird. Maybe if we're down there a while and need to escape though - they're between Ocala and the Villages, so it's not far.

We wondered where you were this weekend. Glad to hear you had a nice time!

Yeah, I felt bad about missing the meeting, but like I said, command performance... ;-)
